Did You Know this Vegetable is a Perennial?

Ever wonder why bunches of asparagus spears are displayed upright in bins of ice water in the supermarket? That's because asparagus is a perennial. Like cut flowers, water preserves its freshness. At home, place a bunch of asparagus spears in a flat-bottomed dish or a short flower vase filled with cold water. The water will help keep the asparagus fresh for several days. Place them under a window for daylight and the tips of the spears will begin to grow anew.
