A Very Creative Idea

This photo demonstrates a brilliant use of Lychnis coronaria. It is planted around the large trunk of a mature Maple tree that welcomes visitors as soon as they exit their cars in the driveway of a vacation home. What an ingenious use of a vivid perennial. Against the huge tree with its enormous trunk, the deep fuchsia flowers appear almost electric while the silver grey of the foliage echoes the grey color of the bark. Never mind that this location gets part sun. This perennial appears to be doing quite well in a place where it was never meant to grow. The Lychnis appear to be newly planted this season. Imagine how magnificent they will be when they are mature. Once again, the composition is far more impressive in reality than the image that the camera captured.

I love that combination! I dont think I've seen this plant before but is the tree making it look small or is it naturally a small plant?
