Carolyn Herriot is the author of the best selling organic gardening guide titled  A Year on the Garden Path, as well as the owner of the organic seed company Seeds of Victoria.  The picture above, taken at her property in Victoria, British Columbia, is called First Arrival at the Garden Path. The image demonstrates the power of grey stone in defining a flowerbed and enhancing plants, especially pink and red ones. It also demonstrates that curb appeal need not be elaborate or costly. The arbor at the entranceway effectively creates a visual and physical transition into a well-maintained interior garden from the natural, rural countryside that surrounds it. Open gateways work well in any garden location where a transition from one space to another will enhance the visitor’s experience.
